The PS 226 Foundation, led by John DiMurro, holds the 4th Annual Ranger Day at PS 226, 1950 Sedgwick Avenue, Bronx, NY

For the 4th year, students at PS 226 will be treated to an interactive day featuring Rangers alum Nick Fotiu, the first New York City native to play for the Rangers. Nick Fotiu earned that distinction after making his NHL debut on October 6, 1976.

Junior Rangers Program: “Make Hockey Your Game” initiative will be on hand to distribute brand-new ball hockey sticks and gear to students.

The mission of the PS 226 Foundation is to enrich the academic, social, and personal development of every student by expanding opportunities beyond the classroom.
Building on the legacy of the DiMurro-Romano Children’s Center,
We are committed to providing programs and resources that inspire confidence, leadership, creativity, and community pride.

We support initiatives that elevate the whole child—academically, athletically, and artistically—by funding reading programs, athletic team uniforms, musical instruments, and competitive chess travel.

We celebrate excellence through our Student of the Month program and create meaningful enrichment experiences, including our New York Rangers Hockey partnership, the Business Leader for a Day executive-shadowing trip, and monthly Family Recreation Nights. The Foundation also invests in innovative spaces, such as the Interactive Game Room, to foster collaboration, critical thinking, and joy in learning.

Through these efforts, we strive to ensure that every PS 226 student has access to opportunities that broaden horizons, build character, and empower them to succeed in school and in life.
